Queensborough Community College’s Kurt R. Schmeller Library invites applications for the position of Information Literacy Coordinator at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will provide information literacy instruction, serve as liaison to one or more academic departments, and share responsibility for committee and department assignments, including administrative, supervisory, and other functions as assigned.

Queensborough Community College is part of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Our diverse student population primarily takes general education and lower-division courses for university transfer. The Kurt R. Qualifications

There are two appointment tracks:

  • Instructor (non-tenure track): Requires a Master of Library Science (MLS), Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program at the time of application. Candidates appointed to this title must demonstrate active and satisfactory progress toward a second Master’s degree within five years of initial appointment.
  • Assistant Professor (tenure-track): Requires an MLS, MLIS, or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited program and a second Master’s degree at the time of application.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities, with a commitment to collaboration and mutual respect in a multicultural academic environment.
  • Experience with reference services in an academic library.
  • Experience teaching information literacy in an academic library, with preference given to candidates who have implemented the ACRL Framework in instruction.
  • Demonstrated leadership in an academic library, preferably in an information literacy instructional program.
  • Proficiency in library assessment, particularly related to information literacy instruction.
  • Experience using instructional technologies, such as AI tools, for information literacy.
  • Experience designing instruction and materials using critical pedagogy.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty and librarians to develop and maintain information literacy programs tailored to diverse student needs and levels.
  • Commitment to engaged learning instruction tailored to community college student populations.

Pay

Salary ranges are in accordance with the PSC-CUNY contractual salary schedule effective September 1, 2026:

  • Instructor: $71,688 – $79,298
  • Assistant Professor: $82,384 – $98,231
