Department: Music – Visiting / Part-time Faculty
Position type: Temporary, 13.2 hours per week (0.33 FTE), 1-year appointment beginning 10/01/2026.
About the Role
The Department of Music at UNC-Chapel Hill seeks a classical saxophone instructor to provide individual instruction, group studio class, and saxophone quartet coaching to undergraduate saxophone students (majors, minors, and non-majors).
Responsibilities
- Teach 0.5-hour and 1-hour weekly private lessons to approximately 7–11 students.
- Conduct a 1-hour weekly studio class for collective performance, study, and feedback.
- Coach the saxophone quartet chamber ensemble for 1 hour per week.
- Prepare students for end-of-semester juries and routine performances.
Requirements
- Master’s degree or commensurate professional experience.
- Experience teaching individual saxophone lessons.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in saxophone performance or closely related field.
- Two years of college-level teaching experience.
- Experience coaching small performance ensembles.
- Additional experience teaching private jazz saxophone lessons at the collegiate level (applicants with this background are encouraged to apply for both this position and the temporary jazz saxophone lecturer position).
