Job Purpose
To provide advanced nursing care to patients in a clinical setting in an area of specialization under the direction of a physician.
Job Duties
- Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations.
- Perform, order, and interpret diagnostic procedures in accordance with relevant health concerns of the patient.
- Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments.
- Maintain records and write orders and progress notes in patient charts as to status, treatments, and procedures.
- Monitor and ensure accuracy of recording on patient medical records.
- Provide follow-up health maintenance care to patients in accordance with protocols established with the supervising physician.
- Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care.
- Collaborate with providers, and practice staff in identifying appropriate patients for care management.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master of Science in Nursing
- Advanced Practitioner Registered Nurse license from the Texas Board of Nursing. License may be Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (PNP), Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (ACPNP), or Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP).
- Specialty certification recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing. Specialty certification must match licensing specialty area. (For example, a Nurse Practitioner with an ACUTE CARE PEDIATRIC NURSE PRACTITIONER (ACPNP) license from the Texas Board of Nursing must also have an ACPNP certification.)
- A minimum of three (1) years of RN experience providing care in a hospital, outpatient or hospice setting to chronic, complex patients or patients nearing end-of-life.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner with 3-5 years of experience as a nurse practitioner.
- Strongly prefer palliative care experience with the ability and comfort of inpatient/outpatient patient care.
