About the role

Teaches a full range of skills and knowledge for the certificate program in medical coding. Prepares students to pass the CPC examination.

Responsibilities

  • Presents facilitative, well-prepared, organized, and clear lectures and classroom activities consistent with the course syllabus (AAPC curriculum, medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, advanced medical coding, HCPCS coding, ICD-10 coding) and school policies
  • Promotes students’ development and effective use of skills in critical and analytical thinking, evaluation, communication, professionalism, customer service, computation, problem solving, and decision-making
  • Instructs through remote and in-person delivery (Blackboard, virtual classroom, and/or online using a Learning Management System)
  • Provides students with timely information and feedback on academic progress relative to quizzes, tests, homework, and projects
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of student academic and attendance performance
  • Possesses thorough knowledge and understanding of all College policies, and actively participates in their implementation and enforcement
  • Follows all retention policies of the College to ensure students are in attendance
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Certified Professional Coder Instructor (CPC-I) with the AAPC
  • Minimum of three years of experience as a Medical Coding Specialist in the field
  • Minimum of three years of teaching or related field experience
  • Demonstrated experience managing key metrics

Skills

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to assess and grade student progress
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Sensitivity to appropriately respond to the needs of a diverse population
  • Basic Blackboard skills (or equivalent program)
  • Experience with online instruction
  • Professional presentation skills

Physical Demands / Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a normal, professional office environment with adequate lighting, heating, and ventilation
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform duties, with repetitive motions using hands/fingers (e.g., computer mouse and keyboard)
  • May require some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, and books
  • Work may require travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite

Pay

$30.30/hour

Schedule

Part-Time. Hours will depend on program needs.
