Job Description

Provides instruction in the foundation of jazz and contemporary music that supports performance, theory, technical competency, styles, and interpretation through classes, workshops, and ensembles.

Essential Functions

• Develop and present curriculum that provides students with an experience in the art form that is age appropriate and challenges students to achieve at the highest level
• Work with students from diverse backgrounds to educate and improve skills
• Assess student’s progress by grading assignments
• Organize and present a culminating event that represents the quality of work undertaken over the course of the semester
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop and/or modify curriculum as needed to meet changing industry trends and college initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Education and Experience/Training: Degree in music, music education, and/or equivalent experience
• Knowledge: Knowledge of effective strategies for integrating students with varying stages of music and jazz/contemporary music education pedagogy
• Skills and Abilities: Ability to assess and grade the progress of students, Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, Experience in Music Software, Microsoft Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

• Education and Experience/Training: Bachelor’s Degree or Professional Experience Equivalence
• Experience: Demonstrated experience instructing or teaching others

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment; The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated; Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.; Work may also require walking and standing in conjunction with travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the worksite

Special Note

This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $42.00/ hour. If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College, as outlined in 3354:1-40-01.1
