Instructor in Science Education

Primary & Secondary Schooling (K-12)

The Instructor in Science Education will teach upper-level courses in Life and Earth Sciences for PreK-12 teachers, participate in departmental and college committees, advise and mentor students, and assist with program assessment. Opportunities may include supervising outreach and training activities with local K-12 schools.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach upper-level Life and Earth Sciences courses focused on content and pedagogy for PreK-12 teachers
• Advise and mentor students, especially in the Teacher Education Program
• Serve on departmental and college committees
• Assist with assessment and other departmental duties
• Potentially supervise or conduct outreach/training with local schools

Required Qualifications

• Master’s or Doctoral degree in Science Education or a closely related field
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to teach innovatively and engage students at the undergraduate level

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Virginia Standards of Learning
• Teaching experience in PreK-12 school settings
