Instructor in Law, Initial Focus: Family Law (Part-Time Pool)

We are currently accepting applications for part-time instructors in the Law discipline at Oxnard College. Applications will be kept on file for the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters and may be considered if a vacancy becomes available. The initial focus of this assignment will be teaching courses related to Family Law. Candidates with knowledge and background in Family Law, Procedure, and Legal Research and Writing are highly desired.

About the Role

Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor (Non-Contact/Temporary) provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds to facilitate the attainment of their academic or vocational objectives. Instructors may be employed up to 67% of a full-time assignment.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher-order thinking skills.
• Advise and instruct students on programs of study, higher education opportunities, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services as appropriate.
• Observe and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes; implement performance objectives as listed on the official course outline.
• Maintain accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, and learning outcomes; prepare and submit related data and reports.
• Evaluate and select instructional materials (e.g., textbooks, software) in collaboration with discipline faculty; order materials according to campus procedures.
• Revise and update course content and materials based on new theory, application, and industry developments.
• Update syllabi and collaborate with discipline faculty to assess and revise measurable student performance indicators.
• Participate in curriculum and program development, committees, and department/division/campus/district meetings as needed.
• Engage in articulation and matriculation activities; may provide work direction to others.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for one of the following disciplines as defined by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors:

• Law discipline: Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Legum Baccalaureus (LL.B.).
• Legal Assisting (Paralegal) discipline:
  • Any bachelor’s degree or higher and two years of professional experience, or
  • Any associate degree and six years of professional experience.

Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master’s degree and must be directly related to the teaching assignment. All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university.

Candidates whose degree titles do not exactly match the stated minimum qualifications may submit a Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency for review by the Districtwide Equivalency Committee. Equivalency decisions are based on combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments in the field.
