Instructor in Film and Media Studies (Part Time Pool)

This applicant pool will be used to fill part-time Instructor positions in Film and Media Studies at Ventura College for the Fall 2026 semester.

About the Role

Under the general direction of a dean, an Instructor (Non-Contact/Temporary) provides comprehensive classroom instruction to students from diverse backgrounds to facilitate the attainment of their academic or vocational objectives. Instructors may be employed up to 67% of a full-time assignment.

Where You'll Work

Ventura College, established in 1925, is one of the first community colleges in California, with an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus offers views of the Channel Islands. Ventura College is part of the Ventura County Community College District (VCCCD), which includes Moorpark College and Oxnard College. VCCCD offers programs for transfer to four-year institutions, career technical training, basic skills instruction, and continuing education.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction through lecture, lab, or performance courses; assess and develop cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher-order thinking skills.
• Advise and instruct students on programs of study, higher education opportunities, and study skills; refer students to support services as appropriate.
• Evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes.
• Maintain accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, academic progress, and student learning outcomes; submit data and reports in a timely manner.
• Evaluate and select instructional materials (e.g., textbooks, software) in collaboration with discipline faculty.
• Revise and update course content and materials based on new theory, application, and industry developments.
• Update syllabi and collaborate with faculty to assess and revise measurable student performance indicators.
• Participate in curriculum and program development, committee work, and department/division meetings.
• Engage in articulation and matriculation activities as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for the discipline as defined by the California Community Colleges Board of Governors:

• Master’s degree in Film/Cinema and Media Studies, Film, Television, and Media Studies, Drama/Theater, or Mass Communication;
• OR a Bachelor’s degree in any of the above fields and a Master’s degree in Visual Studies, Media Studies, English, or Communication;
• OR the equivalent*;
• OR possession of a valid California Community College Teaching Credential appropriate to the discipline.

All coursework must be from a recognized accredited college or university. Candidates with foreign transcripts must provide additional documentation (see "Foreign Transcripts" section in the original posting).

Equivalency

The District recognizes that expertise in the discipline may be attained through combinations of education, experience, and other accomplishments. If your degree title does not exactly match the listed minimum qualifications, you may submit a Supplemental Questionnaire for Equivalency for review by the Districtwide Equivalency Committee. Equivalency determinations are made separately from the recruitment process and may not delay the hiring timeline.
