Position Type: Full-time, 9-month professional-track appointment (40 hours per week, 8 courses per academic year). Renewable contingent upon performance, funding, and departmental needs.
About the Role
The Department of Geography at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full-time Instructor position in GIScience with a focus on Applied GIS, beginning August 16, 2026. The teaching load is four courses per semester (4-4 load) and may include online instruction.
Responsibilities
- Teach a range of GIS courses, including:
- GEOG 105 – The Digital Earth
- GEOG 263 – Introduction to GIS
- Advanced courses such as Advanced GIS, Spatial Programming, Drones, and WebGIS
- Emphasize applications addressing issues in both physical and social environments.
- Teach additional courses as agreed upon with the department chair.
Requirements
- PhD in Geography or applied GIScience by the start date of the appointment (August 16, 2026).
- Teaching experience in GIS, Cartography, or Remote Sensing as instructor of record.
