About the Role

Engages HVACR students in the teaching/learning process in both traditional and distance formats. Assists in establishing curricular goals and objectives, mentoring adjunct instructors, and recommending candidates for adjunct instructor openings. Represents the College in the community and performs related duties as required.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and teaches HVACR courses that fulfill curriculum goals and objectives.
  • Ensures consistency in course content, syllabus, outlines, and teaching materials for both classroom and lab experiences.
  • Works effectively with students, maintaining an acceptable level of civility and discourse.
  • Communicates student progress in a timely manner and employs appropriate assessment techniques.
  • Collects, reports, and maintains assessment documentation, including submitting grades per College policies.
  • Assesses curriculum in the assigned program or discipline and recommends improvements.
  • Attends meetings for assessment planning and evaluation of course and program effectiveness.
  • Collaborates with advising staff to ensure program clarity and assists with student advising.
  • Works with admissions advisors to recruit students for the HVACR program.
  • Engages business and industry partners to align program learning outcomes with their expectations.
  • Conducts regular advisory board meetings.
  • Provides guidance and expertise to adjunct faculty based on their rank.
  • Maintains posted office hours in accordance with departmental and College policies.
  • Oversees and maintains lab facilities and equipment.
  • Participates in professional development activities and faculty evaluation processes.
  • Stays current with trends in the HVACR field and instructional methodologies.
  • Collaborates with other departments on cross-discipline projects.
  • Participates in campus councils, committees, task forces, or work groups.
  • Attends departmental meetings and supports the mission of the program, division, and College.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a high school diploma and one of the following:
    • Seven years of experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and installing HVACR systems, or
    • An active Journeyman’s card or similar industry-certified credential.
  • EPA Section 608 Technician Certification required.
  • Specific experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and/or teaching HVACR, including:
    • System Sizing
    • Refrigeration
    • Refrigerant Recovery
    • Heating Systems
    • Air Conditioning Systems
    • Electronic Controls
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Technology or an HVACR-related field, or
    • HVACR-related Associate Degree (minimum 30 credit hours in HVACR courses), or
    • Any Bachelor’s Degree and industry-certified credentials (e.g., Trane, Carrier).
    • NATE Certification.
    • Two years of teaching, training, and/or apprentice mentoring experience, preferably at the college level.

  • Demonstrated commitment to student success and enhancing teaching and learning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (word-processing, presentation software), internet, and email.
  • Experience with learning management systems.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students.
  • Capability to teach in more than one discipline.
  • Strong advising skills for students.
  • Effective verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
