About the role
The School of Applied Sciences and Arts, in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, invites applications for one (1) First-Year Composition Instructor position for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Instructor position will be assigned to the Downtown Phoenix campus of Arizona State University. The successful candidate will teach a 5/5 course load of undergraduate courses in First-Year Composition for on-ground students in face-to-face classrooms; prepare class materials; evaluate student work; and hold office hours to assist students. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-eligible position renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university.
Responsibilities
- Teach a 5/5 course load of undergraduate courses in First-Year Composition in face-to-face classrooms at the Downtown Phoenix campus
- Prepare class materials and course content, including maintaining and using the LMS for the course
- Evaluate student work and provide feedback
- Hold office hours to assist students
- Work collaboratively with various faculty, staff, students, and communities
Requirements
- Master’s degree in English or a related field at the time of appointment
- Ability to deliver instruction at the Downtown Phoenix campus
- One year of effective teaching experience in First-Year Composition courses in a postsecondary environment
- Capacity to engage in professional duties in ways consistent with the ASU Charter
Desired Qualifications
- Doctoral or terminal degree in English or related field at time of appointment
- Two years of teaching experience in a post-secondary environment
- Ability to use Canvas (asynchronously and/or synchronously)
- Evidence of participation in professional development
- TESOL certification, a comparable credential, or documented experience teaching multilingual writers in postsecondary settings
