Essential Functions

  • Provides instructional training for the Certified Fiber Optic Technician and Installer program.
  • Prepares lesson plans based on established curriculum of The Fiber Optic Association.
  • Maintains accurate, up-to-date records of student academic and attendance performance.
  • Promotes students’ development and effective use of skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, evaluation, communication, professionalism, customer service, problem solving, and decision-making.

Required Qualifications

  • 5 years of industry experience in a related field including documented experience installing and testing fiber optic networks.
  • Familiarity with Fiber Optic Equipment, Experience with fusion splicing and several termination types, experience testing with visual inspection, VFL, OLTS, OTDR
  • Required FOA certification: FOA CFOS/I Instructor Certification (must be certified prior to first day of class).
  • Knowledge of course curriculum created by the Fiber Optic Association
  • Advanced communication (verbal, written, and interpersonal) and organizational skills.
  • Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population.
  • Participation in multiple installation jobs, preferably including premises and OSP installations.
  • Experience preparing various cable types.

Preferred Qualifications

  • FOA CFOS/I Instructor Certification (must be certified prior to first day of class).

Physical Demands/Working Conditions

  • The work is performed in a normal, professional office environment.
  • The work area is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated.
  • Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the duties of the job and will perform repetitive motions with hands/fingers using a computer mouse and keyboard to type, as well as the equipment required for a Fiber Optic Technician.
  • However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items such as papers, files, pamphlets, books, etc.

Set-Rate Non-Bargaining Part-Time Position

This is a Part-Time Non-Bargaining Unit Position, with the following Set Rate of Pay: $36.00/ hour.

Special Note

If hired, you must reside in the state of Ohio and be within commuting distance of this work location/campus to respond to onsite work demands upon the employment start date and throughout the duration of your employment with the College, as outlined in 3354:1-40-01.1.
