Instructor, Emergency Medical Science

About the role

This position is responsible for providing effective instruction for assigned courses and laboratories. The individual must be able to perform the essential job functions satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the primary job functions.

Responsibilities

• Instruct and guide the class in an efficient and effective manner
• Maintain accurate records of student work and attendance
• Prepare thoroughly for each instructional hour
• Maintain a safe and orderly learning environment
• Grade and return student work in a timely manner
• Counsel students regarding their grades and progress in the course
• Maintain necessary North Carolina Office of Emergency Medical Services records
• Maintain appropriate certifications, credentials, and licenses
• Maintain contact with business and industry and assist with placement of graduates
• Participate in student recruiting, orientation, registration, and advising, as assigned
• Secure college assets such as equipment, supplies, and facilities
• Maintain a program of safety
• Construct classroom materials that support the goals of the course
• Design curriculum and a schedule of instruction
• Maintain regular office hours
• Stay abreast of most current teaching methods and technology in the classroom
• Use assessment techniques to improve learning and teaching
• Serve on college or department committees as needed
• Attend professional development opportunities when possible
• Assist with establishing goals and objectives for the course, selecting text, and constructing a syllabus
• Maintain communication with instructors from other divisions in order to keep courses up-to-date and appropriate
• Participate in graduation exercises
• Promote continuous improvement by completing an annual applied benchmark project on an individual or group basis

• Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include day, evening, and Saturdays as needed

Requirements

• Associate degree
• Unofficial transcripts must be attached with your online application prior to submission or submitted to Human Resources immediately upon completing the application
• Credentialed as a North Carolina Paramedic or as a National Registry Paramedic with eligibility for reciprocity to obtain a North Carolina Paramedic credential
• Credentialed as a North Carolina Level I Paramedic Instructor or equivalent
• Two years of experience teaching in a post-secondary educational environment

Preferences

• Bachelor's degree
• North Carolina Level II Paramedic Instructor or equivalent
• Five years experience teaching in a post-secondary educational environment
