Instructor-College

Allen College is seeking candidates for a full-time faculty position in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. The faculty member shall hold an academic faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor consistent with education, experience, and qualifications. Faculty are members of the Allen College Faculty Organization Committee and are appointed to other faculty committees, contributing to program development, evaluation, and student guidance.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of individual courses and overall curriculum with guidance.
• Engage in faculty development, governance, and college decision-making processes.
• Serve on faculty organization committees.
• Promote and maintain collaborative relationships between the college and clinical agencies.
• Teach, prepare, instruct, supervise, and evaluate classroom and clinical experiences.
• Coordinate and supervise students’ clinical experiences in alignment with established standards of care and course/program objectives.
• Serve as an academic advisor for students.
• Participate in professional activity and community service.
• Engage in scholarly activities, including:
  • Developing knowledge and proficiency in one’s field of professional specialization.
  • Writing, editing, and reviewing texts and articles.
  • Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and conventions of professional associations.
• Participate in the coordination, advisement, and supervision of student organizations and other non-academic college activities.
• Demonstrate commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and values of Allen College and adhere to college policies, procedures, and guidelines.

• Manage daily mental and physical job stresses, including meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and working with staff, faculty, students, and the public.

Qualifications

• Education: A bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in program discipline or a related field, with major study in the area of teaching responsibility. A master’s degree in program discipline or a related field with a major study in the area of teaching responsibility is preferred, along with teaching experience.
• Licensure/Certification:
  • Current certification by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) in Abdomen, OB/GYN, and RVT specialties.
  • Current licensure or permit to practice, as required by regulatory and/or accrediting agencies.
• Experience:
  • A minimum of two years of teaching experience in program discipline or two years of clinical experience in the area of teaching.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with a minimum of one year of experience as an instructor in a JRC-DMS accredited program and two years of clinical experience in the professional discipline.
• Other:
  • Current clinical skills and demonstrated competency in practice.
  • Evidence of teaching ability as indicated by others in the education field.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in scholarly work appropriate to the individual’s field.
  • Evidence of involvement in professional activity and community service.
