About the role
The Eye Institute (TEI) of Drexel University seeks a clinical educator and provider to support the education of optometry students, residents, and other trainees at both the flagship location and satellite clinical facilities.
Responsibilities
- Provides clinical education to optometry students, residents, and others assigned to the Specialty, and the Primary Care Services at The Eye Institute (TEI) and its satellite facilities, during a weekly schedule based on the current needs of the program, which may include evenings and Saturdays.
- Provides independent direct patient care as needed.
- Provides timely, constructive feedback to students during patient care, through daily patient encounter entries in Meditrek, to the Chief of Service, and during attending grading meetings.
- Assists the service chiefs in remediating struggling students as needed.
- Participates in clinical round tables before, during, or after clinical sessions.
- Participates in the education, mentoring, and evaluations of TEI residents when appropriate.
- Participates and organizes workshops as needed.
- Provides instruction in preclinical skills or other labs with the possibility of other didactic assignments as appropriate, based on the needs of the program and interest of the faculty member.
- Participates with program directors and other faculty/staff in the planning, preparation, and implementation of integrated curricular content and clinical protocols.
- Participates in faculty meetings, workshops, and development activities as appropriate.
- Participates in the Scholars Program as assigned.
- Responsible for accurate, timely medical record and Meditrek completion as well as compliance with the policies and procedures of the TEI Practice Manual and Drexel University.
Requirements
- Minimum of a PhD or Doctorate in Doctor of Optometry.
- Minimum of Residency or 4 years equivalent experience.
- Specialty contact lens experience.
- Eligible for faculty rank and professional staff appointment at TEI and PCO.
- Continuing faculty appointment is contingent on maintaining clinical privileges consistent with TEI credentialing policies and protocols and adhering to established compliance protocols.
Qualifications
- Experience 5 years preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: Fellow/Diplomate, American Academy of Optometry.
- Physical Demands: Typically sitting at a desk/table, typically bending, crouching, stooping, lifting demands ≤ 25lbs.

This is a Full-Time Faculty position classified as Exempt. The offered salary is based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
