Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach the equivalent of five (5) courses per semester (fall and spring)
- Develop and revise curricula
- Advise ASLS students
- College service (committee assignments, recruitment events, etc.)
- Professional development (conferences, workshops, publications, etc.)
- Serve as program manager for the Associate of Arts in American Sign Language Studies.
- Other duties as assigned
Job Specification
- Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in one of the following or a closely related field:
- American Sign Language
- Linguistics
- Sign Language Studies
- Sign Language Education
- Interpreter Education
- Deaf Education
- Deaf Culture
- One of the following credentials:
- Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
- National Interpreter Certification (NIC) from RID
- Certification from the American Sign Language Teachers Association (ASLTA)
- Or an equivalent recognized certification
- Preferred Education: Master’s degree in one of the following or a closely related field:
- American Sign Language
- Linguistics
- Sign Language Studies
- Sign Language Education
- Interpreter Education
- Deaf Education
- Deaf Culture
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching American Sign Language at the college or university level.
