About the role

Louisiana State University in Shreveport seeks an enthusiastic, student-centered, and detail-oriented professional to serve as an Instructional Technology and Media Specialist. This position supports the design, development, revision, and continuous improvement of digital, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses at LSUS. Reporting to the Chief Online Learning Officer, the Instructional Technology and Media Specialist collaborates with faculty and campus partners to strengthen course quality, Moodle course design, student engagement, RSI best practices, and the effective use of educational technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with faculty and staff regularly to clearly explain technical concepts and procedures in non-technical terms
  • Collaborate with faculty to support the design, development, revision, and continuous improvement of online courses and programs
  • Provide one-on-one and group consultations and serve as a resource for faculty on course design, development, student learning outcomes, assessment alignment, online student engagement, effective use of Moodle and related educational technologies
  • Aid faculty with course modality decisions, including online, hybrid, blended, and face-to-face formats, recommending instructional strategies appropriate to each modality
  • Collaborate with faculty on course development projects to ensure effective alignment of learning outcomes, instructional materials, Moodle course structure, learning activities, student interaction, and technology
  • Support faculty in designing online and hybrid courses that incorporate regular and substantive interaction (RSI) between students and instructors in ways that are intentional, predictable, meaningful, and connected to course learning outcomes
  • Assist faculty in documenting and strengthening RSI best practices within Moodle courses, including instructor-initiated communication, timely feedback, facilitated discussions, direction instruction, and other forms of substantive academic engagement
  • Create instructional resources, guides, templates, tutorials, and training materials to help faculty apply evidence-based practices in online course design and delivery within Moodle and other digital learning environments
  • Develop and help facilitate workshops, trainings, open labs, and customized faculty development opportunities in collaboration with CELT related to instructional design, online teaching, Moodle, educational technology, student engagement, and course quality
  • Stay informed on current research related to instructional design, online learning, adult learners, non-traditional students, student engagement, RSI, accessibility, Moodle, and other trends in the broader digital learning ecosystem
  • Perform other duties related to instructional design, faculty support, online learning Moodle, educational technology and online course improvement as assigned

Requirements

The Instructional Technology and Media Specialist must report to the Chief Online Learning Officer.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant or related academic field from a regionally accredited college or university
  • LSUS values skills, experience and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply – a degree is not required if the candidate possesses applicable years of experience.
  • Two years or more experience using course management systems and collaborative tools (Moodle, Zoom, etc.)
  • Experience using standard software application packages and educational technology tools to develop accessible instructional materials (MS Office, Turnitin, Kaltura, Camtasia, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver effective faculty development training or consultations in a one-on-one or group setting either face-to-face or online
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to develop and deliver training materials and presentations to a diverse group of people in a professional context
  • Strong planning and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks with quick deadlines
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive and professional working relationships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Ingeniux Content Management System and Moodle Learning Management System
  • Working knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) pedagogies and educational accessibility principles; current theories, models and exemplary practices in higher education
  • Experience with video editing software and industry standard rapid development authoring tools used in online course development
  • Basic knowledge of graphic design
  • Two years or more of experience teaching/training users (instructors, staff, students) effective design and delivery of online courses
