Instructional Support Technician II

About the role

The incumbent performs technical and instructional support services for the Patton Family Sheep Unit under the supervision of the Farm Director. Responsibilities include assisting with daily sheep unit operations, livestock care and health, grazing and pasture activities, instructional laboratory support, maintenance of facilities and equipment, recordkeeping, inventory control, and providing day-to-day guidance to student assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Affirmatively assist with daily sheep unit operations
  • Care for and manage livestock, including health and nutrition
  • Manage grazing and pasture activities
  • Support instructional laboratory activities
  • Maintain facilities and equipment
  • Recordkeeping and inventory control
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to student assistants

Requirements

  • Equivalent to three years of experience providing instructional support services for a related unit or discipline, or in producing materials or supplies or repairing equipment in a discipline related to specialty area to which assigned.
  • Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
  • Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment and in a discipline related to the specialty area to which assigned may be substituted for two years of the required experience.
  • Preference may be given to applicants with three or more years of progressively responsible sheep production experience.
  • Experience supporting teaching laboratories, undergraduate research, and/or extension style programs.
  • Experience with livestock management software and agricultural recordkeeping systems.
  • Experience working in a university, educational, or research farm setting.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Three or more years of progressively responsible sheep production experience.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of sheep production and management
  • Proficiency in livestock care and health
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent recordkeeping and inventory control skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Pay

$55,140 (Step 1) - $80,328 (Step 20) per year.

Schedule

Mon-Fri 8:00am-5:00pm, Summer: Mon-Thurs 7:00am-5:30pm
