About the Role

Under supervision, the Instructional Support Technician (IST) provides comprehensive support services for materials, supplies, equipment, and logistical needs for upper and lower division laboratory courses across several disciplines. This role serves the departments of Earth & Environmental Sciences and Science Education, supporting courses with varied technical and non-technical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, produce, dispense, and store materials, supplies, and equipment for instructional laboratory courses.
  • Provide logistical and technical support for laboratory activities in Earth & Environmental Sciences and Science Education.
  • Maintain and manage instructional resources to meet the needs of diverse courses and disciplines.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to two years of experience providing instructional support services for Earth & Environmental Sciences and/or Science Education, or as a student assistant in related fields.
  • OR two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials, supplies, or equipment in Earth & Environmental Sciences, Science Education, or related disciplines (may substitute for one year of experience).
  • OR four years of college with 16 semester units in the above-mentioned courses (may substitute for all required experience).

Preferences

  • Undergraduate degree in Earth Science, Environmental Science, or an equivalent field (based on curriculum).
  • Full-time equivalent of two years of student assistant-level experience providing support services for instructional programs in earth science, particularly related to science education, including preparing, producing, dispensing, or storing materials, supplies, and equipment.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 12-month position.
  • Academic year schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM.
  • Summer schedule: Monday–Thursday, 7:00 AM–5:30 PM.

Pay

Salary range: $50,208 (Step 1) – $73,152 (Step 20) per year.
