Instructional Support / Lunch Monitor

About the Role

Instructional Support personnel, under the direction of the teacher and building administrator, deliver supplemental academic support aligned to school improvement goals. The position also includes lunchroom supervision duties to ensure student safety and well-being during non-instructional periods.

Responsibilities

• Work with identified students.
• Execute lessons already planned by the classroom teacher.
• Report to the classroom teacher any concerns that may arise (academic or behavior).
• Prepare for the day in case of absence (sub plans).
• Provide supplemental activities to use with groups as time allows.
• Serve as a role model for students and teach leadership attributes.
• Follow PBIS procedures for handling minor classroom behaviors.
• Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, cafeterias, etc.
• Monitor student behavior, promote positive interactions, and address minor issues proactively.
• Assist students with lunch procedures and support schoolwide expectations.
• Ensure cleanliness and support cafeteria staff in maintaining an organized lunch environment.
• Enforce administration policies and rules governing students.
• Substitute in classrooms when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Minimum of 60 college credits, Associate degree, and/or the required credentials under NCLB.
• Valid substitute permit.

Work Environment

This job operates in a school environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. The position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
