Instructional Specialist - Preschool (Effective 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR)
About the role
Provides for the instruction, care, and development of children ranging from 2 years 11 months to 5 years old using Department Preschool Curriculum and the Arizona Early Learning Standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Two (2) years of experience with youth
- AZ Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions
- Associate’s (or higher) degree OR Completion of an AZ Department of Education-approved Academic Assessment Test OR 60 Semester-Hour credits at an institute of higher learning (Copy of diploma, transcripts or test results must be submitted at time of hire)
- Verbal & written communication skills in English and a demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions
Requirements Prior To Start Date
- Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization
- Bloodborne Pathogen training offered by TUSD Risk Management Department
- Documentation of a negative tuberculosis screening test, administered within 12 months before the start date; or if a candidate has had a positive test, a written statement signed and dated by a health care provider within six months before the start date stating candidate is free from infectious active tuberculosis. A negative tuberculosis screening test is required every 12 months of employment
- Post offer/pre-hire Physical Examination with 50 lb. Lift Test to be done by one of the clinics with which the District contracts and sign a Medical History form
- CPR and First Aid Certification (required within 90 days of hire at employee's expense). Certification must be maintained current during course of employment
- Complete and maintain 18 hours of required state trainings per year
- Complete 12 hours of the Department of Economic Services (DES) health and safety classes
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with children 2-5 years of age
- Six (6) months of childcare experience
- Thirty (30) hours of Early Childhood Education (ECE) training/workshops
- Sixty (60) credit hours of college with at least twelve (12) hours in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or Child Development Associate (CDA)

FTE: 1.0 – 8 hours per day
Work Calendar: 9.5 month
Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.
Internal candidates will transfer at a rate commensurate with their bargaining unit language.
