Instructional Paraprofessional - Secondary
Schedule
Non-contract, no benefits. Hours per day: 9:30–3:30 Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday; Wednesday 9:30–2:30 (approximately 5.5 hours). Less than 29 hours per week.
Pay
Untrained – Lane 5: $15.61/hour
Trained – Lane 6: $16.62/hour (employee may complete in-district training to qualify for Lane 6)
About the role
The job of Instructional Paraprofessional is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within the assigned classroom with specific responsibility for assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in the resource classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non-classroom time; and providing clerical support to teachers and staff.
Responsibilities
- Bus supervision after school
- Administer tests, homework, make-up work, etc. to support teachers in the classroom
- Assist with data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher to monitor student progress
- Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments (e.g., reading stories, listening to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforcing English lessons, providing spelling practice, facilitating activities, computer learning programs, etc.) to practice and/or reinforce learning concepts and assist students in reaching academic goals and grade-level standards
- Attend job-specific trainings and meetings (e.g., first aid, behavior management, etc.) to acquire and/or convey information relative to job functions
- Communicate with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and/or implementing IEP and/or 504 objectives
- Demonstrate appropriate role modeling (e.g., conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes, etc.) to guide students in the development of appropriate social and interpersonal behavior
- Implement, under the supervision of the assigned teacher, behavioral plans identified in student IEPs to present and/or reinforce learning concepts
- Maintain instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records and classroom equipment and work area to ensure availability of items, provide written reference, and/or meet mandated requirements
- Monitor students during assigned periods in a variety of school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment
- Perform a variety of clerical duties (e.g., screening phone calls, distributing materials, maintaining inventories, processing documents, etc.) to ensure efficient and effective operations
- Provide, under the supervision of the assigned teacher, instruction to students in a variety of individual and group activities (e.g., academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) to reinforce instructional objectives, implement IEP and/or 504 plans, and ensure student success in school
- Report observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) to communicate information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel
- Supervise and escort students to/from classes to provide a safe and optimal learning environment
Requirements
- Spanish-speaking preferred
- Age 16+
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Must complete mandatory employee training within the first 3 months of employment
