Instructional Paraprofessional - Secondary

Non-contract, no benefits. 3 positions available. Hourly rate: Lane 5 (untrained) $15.61, Lane 6 (trained) $16.62. Employees may complete in-district training to qualify for Lane 6.

About the role

The Instructional Paraprofessional provides support to the instructional program within assigned classrooms, assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in the resource classroom. Responsibilities include implementing instructional plans, monitoring student behavior, providing clerical support, and assisting with student success initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Part of the Student Success Team, working with struggling students on grades, attendance, and other skills.
• Provides support to administration during lunch and passing time.
• Monitors student activities during Flex-time.
• Acts as an emergency substitute and provides teacher support.
• Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support classroom objectives and IEP goals.
• Administers tests, homework, and make-up work to support teachers in the classroom.
• Assists in data collection under the direction of the assigned teacher to monitor student progress.
• Attends job-specific trainings and meetings (e.g., first aid, behavior management) to acquire and convey information relative to job functions.
• Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP and/or 504 objectives.
• Demonstrates appropriate role modeling (e.g., conversation, manners, emotional support, listening skills, friendly and engaging attitudes) to guide students in developing social and interpersonal behavior.
• Implements behavioral plans identified in student IEPs under the supervision of the assigned teacher to reinforce learning concepts.
• Maintains instructional materials, manual and electronic files/records, and classroom equipment to ensure availability and meet mandated requirements.
• Monitors students in various school environments (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots) to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs clerical duties (e.g., screening phone calls, distributing materials, maintaining inventories, processing documents) to ensure efficient operations.
• Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities (e.g., academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills) under the supervision of the assigned teacher to reinforce instructional objectives and implement IEP/504 plans.
• Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g., accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions) to appropriate personnel.
• Supervises and escorts students to/from classes to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.

Requirements

• Age 16 or older.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must complete mandatory employee training within the first 3 months of employment.
• Knowledge of middle school math is essential.

Pay

Hourly rate: $15.61 (untrained, Lane 5) or $16.62 (trained, Lane 6).

Schedule

5.5 hours per day.
