Instructional Paraprofessional - English Language Arts Focus

About the role

Support the principal and classroom teachers in implementing a school program and encouraging a positive learning environment. May supervise study periods including assisting in academic assignments, problem-solving with discipline students, and providing a work conducive environment.

Responsibilities

• Reports consistently for work as scheduled
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Achieves proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
• Assists in preparation, production, and maintenance of materials and equipment as assigned
• Assists individual students in performing activities instructed by a teacher
• Assists students in finding materials and books in library or on the internet
• Assists the student(s) in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks
• Attends meetings and conferences as required
• Attends pre-job training, ongoing training, and meetings as required during the school year in order to remain up-to-date of job procedures
• Collects data for assessment and monitoring purposes
• Completes daily paper work (i.e., attendance reports, detention slips, student referral slips, various student passes, etc.)
• Carrries out instructional programs and lessons in various learning environments as designated in the lesson plan
• Carries out miscellaneous clerical duties and assists other staff members
• Provides reference assistance to students and staff
• Purchases supplies and materials
• Provides support for students during study hall, in-school suspension/detention, and hall duty
• Tutors students in various subject areas under supervision of a teacher
• Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher
• Works with administration and teachers to ensure students are improving skills
• Works with students in one-to-one/group situations

Qualifications

• High school graduate - high school diploma or equivalent
