Instructional Designer
About the role
The Instructional Designer works with faculty and team members to guide the design, development, production, and evaluation of engaging and innovative online courses.
Responsibilities
- Consult with academics to design objective-aligned and engaging learning experiences and authentic assessments providing instructional design guidance, recommendations, and alternatives as appropriate.
- Working with SMEs to transform technical information into engaging, accessible, and interactive content.
- Managing Learning Management Systems (LMS), utilizing rapid authoring tools, and incorporating educational technologies.
- Creating assessments (quizzes, simulations) and analyzing performance data to refine and update courses.
- Managing timelines, budgets, and project scope for multiple training initiatives.
- Creating storyboards, curricula, and instructional materials (print, web, audio, video) using tools like Articulate Storyline or Adobe Captivate.
- Design, build, and maintain courses within the Learning Management System in alignment with institutional templates, standards, and governance processes.
- Knowledge of lecture/capture technologies, along with being able to coordinate technical issues with LMS support, service tickets, schedule updates, building blocks, upgrades, work with other technical advisors outside of the LMS environment, and outside vendors in relation to the LMS.
- Follow documented course development processes, templates, and quality standards, and contribute to their continuous improvement.
- Use data and feedback to guide course revision and the continual improvement of learning experiences.
Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in an IT-related field such as computer science, instructional design, multimedia, or a related field of study. 3–5 years of experience in instructional design or learning design roles, including at least 2 years consulting with faculty in higher education settings. Familiarity with building course materials into learning management systems and utilizing the best online educational tools to promote student goal mastery. Experience conducting training sessions for both small and large groups. Experience working with simulations, games, and other multimedia content. Higher education online teaching experience (a plus).
