Responsibilities

• Consult with faculty members on instructional design projects, providing guidance on course design, development, and delivery for online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats.
• Offer curricular strategies and best practices to faculty to enhance teaching effectiveness across all modalities.
• Provide instruction, consultations, workshops, and resources to help faculty build, maintain, and improve teaching skills and approaches.
• Research current trends in online learning and educational technologies, establish their pedagogical applications, and partner with faculty to integrate them into curricula, potentially leading to coordinated research projects, publications, or grants.
• Research design strategies, sometimes in collaboration with other instructional designers, and instruct faculty on their implementation.
• Support faculty and student users of learning management systems and related learning technologies.
• Design and coordinate training workshops, programs, and resources for faculty, staff, and students on various pedagogical topics.
• Partner with faculty and campus units to ensure online, hybrid, and technology-enhanced courses meet all applicable standards and regulations.
• Assist in developing policies for online and hybrid courses and help establish evaluation procedures for continuous improvement.
• Serve as a liaison to ACCESS to facilitate prompt resolution of accessibility-related accommodation and content remediation requests.

Qualifications

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in education, educational psychology, or the humanities (e.g., history, political science, literature, journalism, communications, or philosophy) AND six months of experience in any of the following: professional writing or editing, audiovisual design/production, design/production of evaluation tools, educational programming, curriculum development, or classroom teaching.
• OR a baccalaureate degree in the same fields AND eighteen months of experience in the areas listed above.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Instructional Design or a related field.
• One year of experience with instructional design and online/hybrid learning strategies and implementation, preferably in higher education.
• One year of experience with academic technologies and their application.
• One year of experience with content development systems and processes, preferably using Articulate to produce resources and objects.
• One year of experience supporting learning management systems (LMS), preferably Blackboard.
• One year of experience in training, preferably in higher education.
• Professional experience using Windows and Mac OS and Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to manage numerous projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
• Experience working in a collaborative atmosphere with strong brainstorming capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to accept constructive criticism.
• Self-motivated and flexible in accepting duties and instruction.
• Experience with web page design concepts, multimedia design skills, digital video and audio, and other relevant technologies.
• Ability to learn complex new technologies quickly and independently.
• Ability to explain complex ideas and technologies to non-technical audiences clearly and understandably.
• Excellent communication skills for diverse settings and audiences with varying knowledge, skills, and experience.
• Strong time management skills.

Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date. Illinois residency requires proof of a valid Illinois Driver’s License or state ID.
