PRIMARY PURPOSE
To provide instructional support to improve all aspects of the curriculum (development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instruction).
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: Master’s Degree required
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in content area
- ESL Supplement required
- GT Endorsement preferred
- Bilingual preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills
- Specific knowledge of the assigned content area
- General knowledge of all elementary and secondary curriculum areas
- Knowledge in the selection, training, and supervision of personnel
- Ability to plan and conduct staff development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to effectively work and communicate with students, parents, and school personnel from diverse cultures or backgrounds
- Knowledge of State and district content standards and knowledge of district school improvement initiatives, including content standards, effective instruction, and assessment practices
- Skills in collaboration, curriculum development, and the use of data to improve student success
Major Responsibilities And Duties
- Curriculum Development and Instructional Management:
- Supervise and support the implementation of curriculum and instructional strategies to increase student achievement
- Suggest methods, procedures and/or new programs for implementing the curriculum
- Use data to improve student achievement
- Collaborate with the Department of Professional Learning to plan and conduct workshops, conferences, and teacher training institutes to introduce new methods and procedures to improve the quality of instruction
- Define or redefine the curriculum content of each course
- Plan, develop and direct curriculum writing activities, promote the use of district-wide curriculum in the planning of classroom instruction and assessment of student achievement
- Select, develop and evaluate district assessments
- Collaborate with the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction in the evaluation and selection of state-adopted textbooks and other curriculum materials
- Keep Division Directors informed concerning pertinent aspects of the instructional program
- Serve on district committees and task forces that pertain to curriculum and instruction
- School/Organizational Climate And Improvement:
- Facilitate two-way communication to and from the school, concerning all aspects of school and District programs, policies, and other issues impacting student achievement and success
- Work cooperatively with all members of the instructional department
- Communicate with other administrative departments
- Assist in the development, communication, and implementation of the District Improvement Plan
- Administration And Fiscal/Facilities Management:
- Appropriately allocate assigned funds throughout the school year
- Assist in securing additional funding through grants and private corporations
- Make recommendations to schools on appropriate resources to support the instructional program
- Student Management:
- Facilitate development of criteria for proper placement of students in courses
- Student/Community Relations:
- Plan, prepare and/or participate in district/community projects, programs and contests designed to display educational achievement
- Interpret school programs for interested community members
- Professional Growth And Development:
- Stay abreast of current research by practice, by attending conferences, workshops, and reading professional literature
- Join, participate in, and work on committees associated with professional organizations
- Professional Practices:
- Abide by the Professional Code of Ethics
- Adhere to all board policies and District administrative procedures
Working Conditions
- Physical/Mental Demands: Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress.
- Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
- Ability to coordinate district functions.
- Must interpret policy, procedures and data.
- Frequent lifting and carrying of moderate weight materials.
- Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel.
- Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
