Job Summary

The Preschool Services Instructional Coach will work in the preschools classrooms to improve instruction and student growth. The Coach will focus on implementation of the Utah Early Learning Core Standards with research-based instructional practices using district adopted tools and provide sustained support to teachers through a continuum of coaching and professional development opportunities.

Essential Functions

  • Implement the continuum of coaching principles and strategies within the preschool setting.
  • Differentiate coaching with teachers, working within a range of skill levels and across content areas.
  • Coach teachers on developmentally appropriate practices including explicit instruction, whole and small group instruction, classroom management, assessment, learning environments, age-appropriate content and teaching strategies.
  • Provide effective feedback to teachers and receive feedback on coaching skills from supervisor.
  • Coach teachers in effective problem solving, conflict resolution, team building, and communication skills that foster supportive interaction and collaboration among colleagues, preschool staff, and parents.
  • Understand and implement the Granite District Preschool model, program goals, and expectations with fidelity.
  • Participate in department level leadership team and other district PLC assignments.
  • Aid in the development, presentation, and application of staff professional development.
  • Maintain professional competence through professional development activities provided by the school district and self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines.
  • Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community.
  • Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with students, preschool staff, elementary school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
  • Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.

Required Knowledge And Skills

  • Possess strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Possess effective problem solving, conflict resolution, team building and communication skills that foster supportive interaction and collaboration among colleagues, preschool staff, district staff, parents, and outside agencies.
  • Implements organizational, scheduling, and time management skills to meet all coaching requirements.
  • Holds a thorough understanding and working knowledge of the Utah Core Standards for Early Learning.

Required Training And Education

  • Requires a Utah State Board of Education (USBE) cleared criminal background check.
  • Requires one of the following: a valid Professional Educator License issued by the Utah State Board of Education with a license area of concentration in one of the following: Early Childhood Education; Elementary; Preschool Special Education; Special Education; or Speech-Language Pathologist; or an equivalent license in another state or country.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in preschool education preferred.
  • Experience in providing effective professional development in preschool content areas preferred.

Working Environment

  • Supervision of students requires both indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g. recess duty, gymnasium activities, etc.) in all types of weather and air quality.
  • Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the teacher is regularly required to speak and/or hear.
  • The teacher is frequently required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, and crouch.
  • The teacher is occasionally required to use hands to handle or feel and must occasionally climb or balance.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • The teacher must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Teachers in P.E., CTE, Theatre and/or Art may be required to frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
