About the role
Provides support and assists in coordinating instructional programs relating to special education students and their Individual Education Plans (IEP).
Maintains an environment conducive to learning.
Responsibilities
- Makes sure the classroom is a safe and healthy place for all students.
- Aids teachers with planning and organizing, evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing necessary materials.
- Assists teachers with implementing students' behavioral intervention plans.
- Ensures materials for students are readily available according to the needs of the lesson plan.
- Demonstrates professional and technical skills necessary to function effectively in the classroom and support student achievement.
- Maintains a positive disposition, exercises good judgment, and remains calm when dealing with students.
- Supports students in achieving independence and self-determination.
- Assists teachers with the use of assistive technology and augmentative communication devices.
- Compiles, maintains, and files reports, records, and other required documents, maintaining confidentiality.
- Participates in the district staff development program and continues professional growth.
- Coordinates, assists, and facilitates student transitions between classes.
- Assists students with special health care needs, including personal hygiene, restroom functions, mobility assistance, and adaptive equipment needs.
- Provides behavioral assistance and applies CPI skills.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- If Title I school, meet ESSA employment requirements and have relevant coursework or work experience.
- CPI certification and CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- Experience working with or assisting individuals with special needs.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and successful instructional delivery methods.
- Working knowledge of general classroom activities and routines.
- Ability to protect confidential information under FERPA and other applicable laws.
- Ability to work in a team environment and collaborate effectively.
- Ability to motivate students and communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to recognize and support diverse backgrounds, abilities, exceptionalities, and learning styles.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various stakeholders.

Schedule
Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)
Workday must not exceed more than 40 hours per week and begins at least 30 minutes prior to the instructional day for students.
