About the role

Assist a certificated teacher in the instruction, supervision and training of an individual or group of students by providing a variety of instructional support, student care activities, and related duties in the maintenance of an effective learning environment. Under supervision, employees in this classification provide a variety of responsible instructional support activities to enhance the educational environment within the district and require a high degree of positive contact with both students and certificated staff.

Requirements

• Command of the English language
• Knowledge of pertinent academic areas and learning situations
• Understanding of general needs and behaviors of students and students' recreational activities involving sports, games, arts and crafts
• Ability to understand the needs of high school students and to effectively relate to these needs in a learning or recreational situation
• Ability to learn the requirements of students in specific learning programs to which assigned
• Ability to analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
• Ability to supervise students in a variety of situations
• Ability to establish and maintain accurate classroom records and files
• Ability to operate standard office equipment including computer keyboarding, copy machines, tape recorders and projectors
• Ability to maintain calm and patience in stressful situations
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• One of the following:
  • Proof of passing Paraprofessional Exam from any district
  • AA Degree or higher
  • At least 48 college units or 72 quarter units

Pay

$2,249.00 (monthly)

Schedule

6 hours daily, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
