About the Role
This position provides instructional and behavioral support to students with disabilities in a resource setting under the direction of a licensed special education teacher.
Responsibilities
- Assist the teacher in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Provide one-on-one or small-group instruction as directed by the teacher.
- Support students with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and positive learning environment.
- Assist with classroom management and behavior intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to support student success.
- Monitor and document student progress as required.
- Perform clerical duties such as preparing materials, grading assignments, and maintaining records.
- Assist students with personal care needs as necessary (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility).
- Supervise students during transitions, meals, and other non-instructional times.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Minimum of 48 college credits OR passing score on the ParaPro Assessment (or equivalent).
- Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or special education setting.
- Ability to follow directions, work collaboratively, and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to lift, position, and assist students with disabilities as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in education, special education, or a related field.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills.
- Experience with behavior management techniques or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
- Familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive equipment.
