Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Affords positive learning experiences for students in secondary grade levels.
  • Maintains classroom discipline by observing and maintaining order.
  • Accompanies students and monitors their behavior.
  • Provides individual and group attention to students.
  • Reports signs of illness or distress to teaching staff.
  • Sets up and arranges classroom supplies and equipment.
  • Performs clerical duties like teaching aids and labeling.
  • Supports teaching staff with implementing instructional goals and activities.
  • Assesses student needs and develops programs to meet those needs.
  • Interacts with teachers and specialists to carry out assigned duties.
  • Oversees students and performs general clerical tasks.
  • Conducts informal presentations and assists with demonstrations.
  • Builds confidence and recognizes socioeconomic and cultural differences among students.
  • Balances emotional support and discipline, dealing with common behavior problems.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic knowledge of principles and practices of age-appropriate student development and guidance.
  • Working knowledge of basic subjects taught in the District schools.
  • Basic knowledge of teaching and instruction methods.
  • Basic clerical and record-keeping processes.
  • Sufficient human relations skills to work productively and cooperatively.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers and other equipment.

Abilities

  • Assist teaching staff with implementation of instructional goals and activities.
  • Assist teaching staff with assessing the needs of individual students.
  • Interact with teachers and specialists to carry out assigned duties.
  • Oversee students and perform general clerical tasks.
  • Make informal presentations and assist with demonstrations.
  • Relate positively to students in a teaching/learning environment.

Physical Abilities

  • Perform indoors and outdoors with some, yet infrequent exposure to health and safety considerations.
  • Move about office, classroom/laboratory, and school grounds.
  • Lift, carry, push, and move supplies, furniture, etc., of light-to-medium weight (under 50 pounds).

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • May require a valid California driver's license.
