About the role
This recruitment is open and promotional, meaning all are welcome to apply and current employees in permanent positions are eligible to receive seniority credit and promotional placement once passing all exams. Assignments average 3.92 hours per day, 5 days per week, 10 months per year. Hours for these positions are between 2:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. This recruitment will be used to fill substitute and regular assignments.
Responsibilities
- Implement approved academic, enrichment and recreational activities for students
- Provide homework assistance and instructional support to students
- Provide a safe and nurturing environment for student achievement
- Prepare and organize instructional materials to promote student learning
- Collect, maintain and input attendance data into assigned school program database
- Maintain classroom in as safe, sanitary and orderly condition
- Communicate with personnel and parents to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns
- Operate a variety of audio-visual, office and instructional equipment; including a computer and assigned software
Requirements
- Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and two years working with children in an organized setting
- A valid First Aid certificate required within six months of employment

- Licenses and Other Requirements: Valid First Aid certificate required within six months of employment
Skills
- Knowledge of classroom procedures and appropriate conduct
- Student behavior management techniques
- District and site policies, procedures and regulations
- Instructional methods, techniques and subject matter
- Basic subjects taught in the district schools, including English, science, history, reading, and math
- Goals and objectives of assigned program
- Basic record keeping techniques
- Basic instructional methods and techniques
- Health and safety regulations
- Basic First Aid techniques
- Operation of standard office equipment, including a computer and appropriate software
- Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy
- Nutrition needs for students
Benefits
- Vacation – Holidays – Illness: Twelve (12) days of vacation during the first year of employment, increasing up to twenty-two (22) days beginning the 18th year of service, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month assignments. The number of paid holidays per year varies from twelve (12) to fifteen (15) days depending on the work calendar. Employees accumulate twelve (12) days of paid sick leave per year, with unlimited accumulation, prorated for part-time, 9, 10, and 11 month employees.
- Retirement: All employees who are in the classified service and work four (4) hours per day or more are members of the Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) and Federal Social Security. If an employee in the classified service works less than four (4) hours per day they are members of an Alternate Retirement System (PARS) and do not contribute to Social Security. Approximately 7% is deducted from your paycheck for PERS retirement.
- Health & Welfare: The District offers a comprehensive health benefits program for employees who work twenty (20) hours or more per week. This includes medical, vision, dental insurance plans and life insurance for employees. For full-time employees the District pays the employee's health, vision, dental, and life insurance premiums with an employee contribution required for some plans.
