Qualifications

  • Completion of two years of study (60+ hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate's (or higher) degree is preferred.
  • Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable.
  • Candidates must have a sincere interest in working with students in the learning process.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to take direction.
  • Initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments.
  • Patience and genuine interest in education of students.
  • Awareness and respect for student diversity.

Requirements

  • This is a 9 month position for 7 hours/day (plus 1/2 hour unpaid lunch).
  • This position is eligible for PTO and health benefits.

Benefits

  • Provides both direct and indirect support to promote student learning in the special education and general education settings as directed by the Skills Lab teacher(s).
  • Acts as an extension of the teacher through an integrated program to promote the social, emotional and behavioral skill development of students.
  • Prepares the necessary instructional materials according to the teacher's direction to implements individual education programs (IEP).
  • Implements behaviors intervention plans (BIP) when necessary.
