About the role

The job of an Instructional Assistant-Bilingual is done for the purpose of providing support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specific responsibility for working with students individually or in small groups in assisting in the assessment of students' English language acquisition from their native language, performing classroom clerical tasks, and serving as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with non-English speaking persons. This job reports to the designated administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to the instructional program within assigned classroom.
  • Work with students individually or in small groups to assist in the assessment of students' English language acquisition from their native language.
  • Perform classroom clerical tasks.
  • Serve as a resource to other school personnel requiring assistance with non-English speaking persons.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or General Education Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Passing score on the Lynwood Unified School District Instructional Assistant Proficiency Assessment (Written Examination), demonstrating knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • One (1) year of job-related experience.
  • Fluently speak, read, write, and translate information in English and a designated second language with accuracy (Spanish).
  • Any other combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the required skills, knowledge, or abilities may be considered.

Qualifications

Proof of high school graduation or equivalent (GED), or of higher education (Associate degree or above) must be submitted. Foreign diploma/degree/transcripts must be certified and evaluated to meet United States equivalency.

Examination Process

  • Written Examination (may have multiple steps administered on different days, weighted as 50%).
  • Oral Examination (may have multiple steps administered on different days, weighted as 50%).
  • Participation in all portions of the examination process is by official invitation only. Candidates who do not participate in all parts will not be considered.

The District reserves the right to add, eliminate, or adjust testing steps at any time. The process may include application screening, qualifications screening, documentation/certification screening, and various examination types.

Pay

Pay increases annually on July 1 until the top of the salary range is reached.
