Job Summary
The Instructional Assistant assists teachers in implementing the instructional program, working directly with children in small groups or individually.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Effectively utilizes district technologies appropriate to the position and attends training as directed by supervisor.
- Assists teachers with planning, preparation, and distribution of classroom materials.
- Copies, cuts, colors, and constructs materials and bulletin boards as needed.
- Maintains regular attendance and complies with state law and district policies and regulations.
- Maintains a safe environment for students conducive to learning.
- Serves snacks and lunches as necessary.
- Attends workshops as directed.
- Provides individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce skills taught by the teacher.
- Supervises children in the classroom.
Qualifications And Requirements
- A minimum of an Associate's degree or equivalent of two years college education (60 Semester Hours), or passing test results from the ParaPro or WorkKeys assessment is required.
- Prior experience working with children is preferred.
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- A valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card is required.
- Must pass proficiency tests in Math, Reading, and Grammar with a score of 75% or better.
- Ability to interface effectively with other departments, school personnel, and business contacts.
- Must possess and use skills such as problem-solving, flexibility, and willingness to perform a variety of tasks.
- Must have patience working with children and excellent oral and written communication skills.
