About the role
The Instructional Assistant (IA) supports classroom teachers in various activities and creates a safe, healthy, and encouraging environment for students.
Responsibilities
- Aids teachers with planning and organizing lessons.
- Evaluates instructional activities and develops classroom procedures.
- Prepares necessary materials for students according to lesson plans.
- Assists with vision and hearing screenings, entering results into EASi.
- Maintains a positive disposition and remains calm during interactions with students.
- Collaborates with teachers to devise special strategies for reinforcing skills and concepts.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- If employed in a Title I school, meet the employment requirements outlined by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
- Hold and maintain a Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification (if required by the school).
- Possess CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
Qualifications
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
- Working knowledge of core subjects at the grade level to which employment is assigned.
- Ability to recognize and support students of diverse backgrounds, learning abilities, and learning styles.
- Ability to protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with FERPA and other applicable laws.
- Ability to work in a team environment and effectively collaborate with others.
- Ability to motivate students and communicate clearly and concisely.
- Ability to implement academic and behavioral interventions, as needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the public.
