About the role

The Instructional Assistant (IA) supports classroom teachers in various activities and creates a safe, healthy, and encouraging environment for students.

Responsibilities

  • Aids teachers with planning and organizing lessons.
  • Evaluates instructional activities and develops classroom procedures.
  • Prepares necessary materials for students according to lesson plans.
  • Assists with vision and hearing screenings, entering results into EASi.
  • Maintains a positive disposition and remains calm during interactions with students.
  • Collaborates with teachers to devise special strategies for reinforcing skills and concepts.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • If employed in a Title I school, meet the employment requirements outlined by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
  • Hold and maintain a Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification (if required by the school).
  • Possess CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
  • Working knowledge of core subjects at the grade level to which employment is assigned.
  • Ability to recognize and support students of diverse backgrounds, learning abilities, and learning styles.
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of personally identifiable information in accordance with FERPA and other applicable laws.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively collaborate with others.
  • Ability to motivate students and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to implement academic and behavioral interventions, as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, businesses, community agencies, and the public.
