Instructional Aide/Trainee - Deaf School
About the role
The Ohio School for the Deaf is seeking dynamic applicants to support students who are diverse learners. Applications are accepted for both the Instructional Aide and Instructional Aide Trainee classifications.
Responsibilities
Assists teachers in academic instruction, vocational, and daily living skills for students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, or deafblind, and/or students with multiple disabilities.
Counsel students to address educational, emotional, physical, or personal needs.
Maintain discipline and ensure students comply with school rules.
Support students in the use of adaptive technology.
Provide language enrichment and mediation for language deprivation support.
Facilitate transportation needs, including escorting students to and from school, buses, and personal transportation.
Operate motor vehicles in escort and transporting students.
Carry out lesson plans in the absence of the teacher.
Prepare and create instructional media for classroom use.
Operate and maintain various equipment and software.
Participate in IEP meetings and conferences.
Perform clerical tasks such as translating, typing, duplicating, maintaining records, and distributing materials.
Responsibilities - Alice Cogswell Center
Prepare and carry out programming for children aged birth to transition to pre-school.
Ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
Attend in-service training sessions and staff meetings.
Qualifications
Current Educational Aide Permit as issued by the State Board of Education.
12 months of experience in teaching assistance.
Intermediate level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) required upon hire for positions at the Ohio School for the Deaf.
