Instructional Aide (TK) - Elementary School (26-27)

Under the direction of the School Leader or other certificated employee, the Instructional Aide performs instructional support duties to individual or small groups of students within special education or regular classroom settings (both in-person and virtually). These duties complement the instructional program to maximize learning opportunities for inclusion students. The role also involves assisting with classroom and school-wide behavior management and performing routine clerical tasks.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of the Lead Teacher, work with students in small groups or one-to-one assignments to tutor, reinforce, or follow up on learning activities in core academic, language, and/or specialized subject areas (for both in-class instruction and distance learning).
• Assist in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe, and cooperative classroom and learning environment.
• Prepare and set up instructional materials and/or equipment for classroom activities; maintain instructional materials and equipment.
• Assist classroom teachers in creating curriculum modifications for students.
• Provide testing accommodations, including supervising students completing tests in a separate location or during extended time.
• Review and correct student work assignments.
• Assist in the implementation of behavior intervention plans, including approved positive reinforcement strategies and behavior modification techniques.
• Facilitate and support social interactions and foster positive relationships between students with disabilities and their non-disabled peers.
• Model appropriate behavior and attitudes, providing emotional support and general guidance to all students.
• Support students during field trips, school assemblies, or productions.
• Support students in community-based life skills activities such as using public transportation, shopping, and ordering food as directed by the Education Specialist.
• Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

• Bilingual in languages reflecting student populations (preferred).

Qualifications

• Paid or volunteer experience working with students or children in an academic or behavioral support setting (preferred).
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One of the following:
  • A.A. degree, or
  • B.A. degree (or minimum 48 units in process), or
  • Passing score (460) on the ETS ParaPro Assessment.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Demands

• Physical: Ability to navigate school and classroom settings, access and utilize technology, and occasionally lift/carry equipment (1-20 lbs). Physical agility to move in various positions (kneeling, walking, pushing/pulling, squatting, twisting, bending, stooping, and reaching overhead).
• Mental: Ability to handle stress of deadlines, analyze problems, work with interruptions, concentrate for long periods, read, calculate, and perform routine math problems.
• Environmental: School and classroom environment subject to constant interruptions and distractions. Adherence to health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies.

Schedule

This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, non-exempt position based on a school-year calendar cycle and time-off policy. The role is paid over a 12-month period, including scheduled school breaks and summer break.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00 per hour. This rate, combined with an additional 60 days of school break pay, results in annualized pay significantly higher than district peers on average.
