Instructional Aide - Middle School (26-27)
About the role
The Instructional Aide will assist by performing a variety of instructional support duties to individual or small groups of students within the special education setting or regular classroom (both in an in-person classroom setting and virtually).
These duties shall be designed to complement the instructional program to maximize the learning opportunity for the inclusion student.
The Instructional Aide will also assist in the establishment and implementation of appropriate classroom and school-wide behavior and perform a routine of clerical tasks as assigned.
This role is paid over a 12 month period, including scheduled school breaks and summer break. The salary range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00 / hour. This rate, coupled with the additional 60 days of school break pay we offer, results in annualized pay that is, on average, significantly more than our district peers.
Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Lead Teacher, work with students in small groups or in one-to-one assignments to tutor, reinforce, or follow up learning activities in core academic, language, and/or specialized subject areas (for both in-class instruction and distance learning).
- Aid in establishing and maintaining a clean, safe, and cooperative classroom and learning environment.
- Prepare and set up instructional materials and/or equipment for use in classroom activities; maintain instructional material and equipment.
- Aid in the creation of curriculum modifications for students.
- Provide testing accommodations, including supervising students completing tests in a separate location or during an extended time.
- Review and correct student work assignments.
- Aid in the implementation of behavior intervention plans which may involve use of approved positive reinforcement strategies, behavior modification, other skills or knowledge to establish and maintain appropriate behaviors.
- Foster positive relationships between students with disabilities and their non-disabled peers.
- Support students to be active participants on field trips and school assemblies or productions.
- Support students in community-based life skills activities such as using public transportation, shopping, and ordering food as directed by Education Specialist.
- Adhere to KIPP’s health and safety guidelines as outlined by the CDC, CDE, and public health agencies’ recommendations.
Qualifications
- Experience: Paid or volunteer experience working with students or children in an academic or behavioral support setting.
- Education: Title I paraprofessionals whose duties include instructional support must have:
- A high school diploma or the equivalent,
- A.A. degree or
- B.A. degree (or minimum 48 units in process)
- Pass the ETS ParaPro Assessment (passing score = 460)

- Have the ability to learn and utilize instructional technology to support in-class and distance learning when needed (i.e. Zoom, Nearpod)
- Bilingual in languages that reflect our student populations (preferred)

Pay

Schedule
This is a full-time, 40 hour a week, non-exempt position based on a school year calendar cycle and time off policy, located at our school sites.
