Instructional Aide II position at Elk Ridge Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year, supporting children ages three to six with Individual Education Programs under the direction of a Special Education Teacher.

About the role

The Instructional Aide II provides complex support to the instructional program, assisting with the daily care of students with significant learning challenges, observing and documenting student progress, implementing instructional plans, and addressing special health care needs.

Responsibilities

  • Administer first aid and medical assistance, including self-care plans such as toileting, diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, personal hygiene, dressing, and medication.
  • Provide physical care for students with severe disabilities, including lifting and securing wheelchairs or safety restraints.
  • Support instructional activities by adapting and modifying assignments, materials, and assessments under the guidance of teachers and special education teams.
  • Attend training and meetings, including first aid, CPR, and emergency procedures.
  • Communicate with staff to evaluate academic progress and implement IEP objectives.
  • Implement behavior management plans, including crisis intervention and reinforcement systems.
  • Maintain records, including instructional materials and both manual and electronic files.
  • Supervise students during school activities such as lunch, bus stops, playground, field trips, and assemblies.
  • Operate assistive technology and instructional equipment to support student learning.
  • Review classroom lessons with students requiring individual attention.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures, ensuring prompt and consistent attendance.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support classroom and school operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Job-related experience.
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.

Skills

  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and adapt to changing job conditions.
  • Basic math skills, including calculations using fractions, percents, and ratios.
  • Ability to read manuals, write documents, present information, and solve practical problems.
  • Understanding of instructional procedures, age-appropriate activities, safety practices, conflict resolution, and child development/behavior stages.
  • Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, and adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Strong communication skills for diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, and handling crisis situations.
  • Teamwork and ability to manage constant interruptions.
  • Physical ability to lift, carry, push, and pull; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use fine finger dexterity.

Work Environment

  • 30% sitting, 35% walking, and 35% standing.
  • Exposure to risk of injury or illness.

Schedule

7.75 hours per day, four days per week, following the school calendar.

Pay

Salary Grade SI (non-exempt).
