About the role

The Oregon Department of Corrections seeks Registered Nurses to provide on-site care within secure correctional facility medical units. The role offers flexible scheduling, manageable patient loads, and opportunities to follow the course of treatment without the pressures of billing or insurance.

Responsibilities

• Direct Patient Care: Provision of nursing care including patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, medication administration, laboratory/medical procedures, and treatment provision.
• Care Coordination: Scheduling services on-site and community-based services to achieve optimal patient health outcomes.
• Communication: Providing comprehensive patient education and serving as a resource for non-medical staff.
• Advocacy: Advocating for patient care needs to ensure timely service delivery and addressing adverse impacts from the correctional environment.
• Documentation: Maintaining accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care.
• Administrative Support: Coordinating nursing care activities with other departments and assuming operational responsibilities in the absence of management staff.
• Supply Management: Evaluating and monitoring medical supplies to ensure availability and proper accounting.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• A valid Oregon Registered Professional Nurse's License at the time of appointment.
• Prioritization to candidates with an unencumbered license.
