Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism (ISCA) / Borns Jewish Studies Program - Leslie J. Raffel Chair in Antisemitism Studies (Research Professor)

Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for the Leslie J. Raffel Chair in Antisemitism Studies, a non-tenure-track Research Professor position (open rank, with preference for associate or full professor) within the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism (ISCA), housed in the Robert A. and Sandra S. Borns Jewish Studies Program. The appointment is expected to begin January 1, 2027, for a term of up to five years, subject to review, with potential consideration for renewal.

About the role

The Raffel Chair represents a significant investment in advancing Indiana University’s global leadership in the interdisciplinary study of antisemitism. We seek a widely recognized scholar whose work addresses the most urgent contemporary forms of antisemitism. The occupant of the Chair is expected to be fully conversant with the long history of anti-Jewish hostility while maintaining a primary focus on present-day expressions of hostility directed against Jews, Judaism, and the State of Israel. The Chair will provide intellectual leadership—strengthening research initiatives, convening scholars across disciplines, expanding strategic partnerships, and pursuing external funding to advance major projects. This is a full-time research appointment.

Responsibilities

• Provide intellectual leadership in the interdisciplinary study of contemporary antisemitism
• Strengthen research initiatives within the Institute for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism (ISCA)
• Convene scholars across disciplines to advance the study of antisemitism
• Expand strategic partnerships with academic, governmental, and non-governmental organizations
• Pursue external funding to support major research projects
• Mentor graduate students and advanced undergraduate students (preferred)

Requirements

• Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant field
• An established record of significant scholarly achievement focused on antisemitism
• Demonstrated expertise in contemporary manifestations of antisemitism
• Evidence of sustained research productivity

Qualifications

• Senior scholarly standing (preferred)
• Record of successful external grant funding (preferred)
• Demonstrated capacity for intellectual leadership and interdisciplinary collaboration (preferred)
• Experience mentoring graduate students and advanced undergraduate students (preferred)

Pay

Minimum salary of $75,000; final salary commensurate with rank, qualifications, and experience.
