Installation Technician II - Start Up
About the role
Hussmann’s team of Technicians maintain, diagnose, and repair HVAC/R in supermarkets, convenience stores, and cold storage facilities. As a Refrigeration Installation / Startup Technician, you will perform start-up and functionality checking on newly installed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components, equipment, and systems. You will work under limited supervision, making decisions based on expertise and coordination with internal management.
Responsibilities
- Perform start-up and functionality checking on newly installed HVAC, plumbing, and electrical components, equipment, and systems.
- Check newly installed equipment for operation in accordance with engineering or factory specifications.
- Ensure all components and systems are installed per applicable city and trade code.
- Work directly with other subcontractors or vendors to ensure proper operation of equipment.
- Interpret drawings, identify errors/omissions, and advise the appropriate supervisor.
- Install, connect, or adjust thermostats, humidistats, sensors, controllers, and mechanical parts related to the plans.
- Disassemble and reassemble commercial mechanical and plumbing equipment to perform troubleshooting and preventative maintenance as needed.
- Ensure newly installed equipment is level and aligned.
- Explain the work performed to the satisfaction of the customer, including startup and commissioning of building automation and refrigeration systems.
- Provide installation of controls to ensure complete operation of newly installed and existing equipment and systems.
- Diagnose HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, and/or electrical system performance through observation, testing, and setup as required per plans and specifications.
- Complete necessary documents thoroughly, accurately, and timely for customer paperwork, invoicing, and EPA requirements.
- Read and comprehend plans and blueprints regarding the installation of cabling, communication loops, and components associated with energy management and refrigerant leak systems.
- Read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, contract documents, control drawings, service bulletins, technical procedure manuals, equipment specifications, and governmental regulations.
- Maintain and manage truck inventory in an accurate, neat, and orderly manner, and adhere to vehicle maintenance program guidelines.
- Manage multiple priorities with minimal guidance and direction, and lead others on projects.
- Train and provide guidance to Start-Up Technicians with less experience to improve their skill set.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent; ten years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred: Technical Degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with a High School diploma/GED.
- EPA 608 Certification level 3.
- Valid Driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Physically able to climb ladders, work at high elevations, and lift objects up to fifty pounds.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, detail-oriented, and highly motivated.
- Mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and out of town as required.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple, competing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- High level of professionalism and diplomacy.
- Strong customer focus and project management skills with high attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to make decisions, learn quickly, think rationally, and exercise good judgment.
