This Journeyman Installation Technician position is key to maintaining field coverage and project execution capacity across the PNW region. The role requires coordination with project management, field superintendents, and others to fully understand your role on specific projects. You will interpret drawing packages to create the basis of finished systems, including the installation of displays, projectors, loudspeakers, microphones, equipment racks, and more.

Location: Must live in the Portland metro area.

Responsibilities

• Possess all skills from Install Technician and Associate Fabrication Technician roles.
• Lead and delegate tasks to install crews, subcontractors, and union trades; may regularly lead a team on large projects.
• Verify all work complies with Diversified’s and clients' QC standards.
• Oversee field operations in situations without a dedicated on-site superintendent.
• Perform physical installation of a wide variety of technology into diverse locations.
• Execute a wide variety of cabling terminations for all wire and connector types, including verifying crew terminations to standards.
• Support the preparation of equipment racks for staging, including wire lacing, power strips, grounding bars, and jack-fields.
• Read and understand functional design drawings and cable riser diagrams.
• Mount base build equipment such as monitor mounts, ceiling speakers, microphones, and projectors.
• Provide consistent technical performance and flexibility in work schedule, including periodic or regular overtime and weekend work to meet client deadlines.
• Complete assignments in accordance with or better than established task durations and estimate task durations to meet deadlines.
• Provide daily feedback to field site supervisor and/or direct manager.
• Build and wire custom panels from engineering drawings.
• Handle advanced fiber optic cable installation, termination, repair, and testing.
• Generate cable labels and manage wire listing activities per standards.
• Maintain an organized work environment, including cleanliness of the shop and jobsites.
• Track and maintain toolkit, company vehicles, and installation materials inventories.
• Maintain an on-site job box and check in drop-shipped items.
• Work with project managers to ensure timely delivery of on-site equipment and materials.
• Track and maintain personal licenses, certifications, and qualifications (state-specific requirements may apply).
• Maintain daily records of time worked on specific projects for timesheet entry and share employee/contractor information logs with management.

Complexity

This position requires performing tasks on clients’ job sites with no supervision and coordinating with clients, contractors, and subcontractors. As the key senior field supervisor in many situations, you will delegate work, monitor others' work, and communicate with key stakeholders on behalf of the project manager. The role demands the highest level of technical and people skills.

Decision Making Authority

This position often involves working alone on job sites, requiring sound judgment for onsite decisions. While the project manager and site supervisor are available for questions, the role is highly independent. Strong diplomacy is essential when working with clients and other stakeholders.

Physical Working Environment

The physical demands include regular exposure to construction site conditions. You must comply with all safety regulations and use PPE as required. Expect to spend at least 60% of your time on your feet, moving around construction sites, occasionally climbing ladders, using stairs, and lifting/moving materials up to 40 pounds. The role also requires regular use of keyboards, test equipment, and controls for system installation projects. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision. When not on construction sites, you will experience normal office conditions.

Travel

Frequent travel by car throughout the PNW is required. You must possess a valid driver’s license in Oregon and an LEB. Use of your own vehicle is required, with reimbursement for mileage at the current corporate rate.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience.
• AVIXA CTS Certification (required).
• AVIXA CTS-I Certification (highly desired).
• Five or more years as an installation technician or related industry experience.
• Valid driver’s license and adherence to insurance requirements.
• OSHA 30 Certificate (required).
• Other relevant certifications may be required or preferred based on technology focus.

Skills & Qualifications

• 3+ years as an associate technician and/or fabrication technician or related industry experience.
• Familiarity with a wide range of audio, video, and networking equipment.
• Knowledge of low voltage electrical concepts.
• Advanced carpentry and/or installation skills.
• Proficient and safe use of power tools.
• Strong verbal communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems.
