Job Summary
The Information Technology Services (ITS) department of the Department of Social Services (DSS) is seeking an IT Project Specialist to serve as the Installation and Planning Operations Lead. This role oversees and coordinates enterprise support operations related to agency infrastructure, enterprise printing, systems access, installation planning, distributed technology environments, and operational support services supporting NYC Human Resources Administration (HRA) operations citywide.
Responsibilities
- Cook up and oversee the daily activities of the WMS Installations Team, assigning work through NYS-ITSM Service Requests and Incident tickets and ensuring timely completion of operational, infrastructure, connectivity, and deployment-related activities supporting agency operations citywide.
- Provide leadership and operational oversight for agency infrastructure installations, enterprise printing support, workstation deployments, connectivity services, and technology implementation activities supporting agency locations throughout the five boroughs.
- Administer and oversee WMS DNS infrastructure, including critical DNS servers supporting WMS user authentication and enterprise printing services.
- Maintain server integrity, availability, and operational performance while coordinating updates to DNS records and related configurations as required; coordinate and oversee the WMS hardware environment consisting of printers, ATS devices, workstations, and associated network equipment located throughout agency sites citywide.
- Coordinate installation, relocation, repair, replacement, removal, and lifecycle management activities as needed.
- Coordinate agency-wide infrastructure planning activities associated with relocations, office reconfigurations, restacking efforts, workstation deployments, and new site buildouts.
- Review floorplans, validate infrastructure requirements, and ensure all connectivity and operational needs are incorporated into project planning activities; coordinate with vendors, telecommunications providers, network teams, PMO groups, facilities personnel, and agency stakeholders regarding network installations, structured cabling, hardware deployments, site readiness activities, infrastructure upgrades, and agency relocation projects; process requests for WMS user additions, deletions, modifications, workstation IDs, printer configurations, and system access changes.
Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain;
- An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain;
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain;
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.
Preferred Skills
- Extensive experience supporting enterprise infrastructure operations, distributed systems, enterprise printing services, authentication platforms, and agency-wide technology deployments.
- Experience supporting enterprise applications, including the Welfare Management System (WMS), with responsibilities such as workstation configuration, application deployment, user access coordination, WMS workstation and location code management, and operational support.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership by directing, assigning, prioritizing, and coordinating the work of technical teams to ensure timely completion of operational activities, projects, and service requests.
- Experience coordinating technical staff, vendors, consultants, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders within large, complex operational environments.
- Knowledge of enterprise DNS administration, Enterprise Output Management (EOM) solutions, PageCenter applications, distributed document delivery environments, and WMS printing infrastructure.
- Experience planning and coordinating infrastructure implementations, office relocations, workstation deployments, and enterprise technology rollouts.
- Strong project coordination, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business teams.
- Experience supporting large-scale operational initiatives involving cross-functional coordination and multiple concurrent projects.
- Knowledge of network infrastructure, telecommunications, structured cabling, and hardware deployment coordination.
- Experience using IT Service Management (ITSM) platforms such as ServiceNow, NYS-ITSM, or similar systems to manage incidents, service requests, and operational workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical staff, manage competing priorities, delegate assignments, monitor workload, and ensure adherence to established operational procedures and project timelines.
