Apply Now Job Summary INSPIRE is seeking a motivated, detail oriented, and coachable student to work on an applied industry internship project during the Fall 2026 semester. In this role, you will work collaboratively with one other student, one faculty fellow, and one industry partner mentor. This position offers a moderately flexible schedule and would require approximately 6 hours per week, with the opportunity to work as much as 10 hours. Your weekly schedule would be determined upon hire in partnership with the assigned Faculty Fellow, Dr. Matt Fhaner. Responsibilities* Responsibilities The chosen student will be responsible for preparing materials needed for their assigned project(s), experimentation as directed by faculty fellow and industry partner contact, data collection, and delivering feedback to Dr. Fhaner, as well as the INSPIRE Industry Engagement Manager. This could include: Experimental DesignData Collection and AnalysisCommunicating Results to Team MembersLaboratory Housekeeping Tasks Such as: Cleaning Glassware, Hazardous Waste Oversight, Replenishing Consumables, Etc.Responsibilities also include performing inventory of their assigned lab space and working with Dr. Matt Fhaner to ensure materials are ordered and delivered in time for labs. Required Qualifications* Must be a currently enrolled student within the College of Innovation and Technology at the University of Michigan-FlintSophomore level or aboveNomination by at least one CIT faculty member or career advisor or academic advisorA demonstrated ability to apply laboratory safety rules Desired Qualifications* Successful completion of one or more lab class in ChemistryWilling and available to participate in career workshops and Career Fair for CITDemonstrated Organizational skills and time managementExperience with experimentationStrong verbal and written communication skillsCoachable and approachable Modes of Work Onsite The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department.
