Inspector, Final Operations - Night Shift - Aerospace

Inspectors are key personnel in the Accurus Quality Department, integral to our overall quality management system and customer satisfaction. These employees perform inspections on newly received goods, work-in-process, and final inspections of machined aerospace parts and assemblies to ensure compliance with engineering requirements and work instructions. Inspectors document approvals and non-conforming parts, assist in problem-solving to identify rework requirements, and may provide quality or manufacturing process training for manufacturing personnel.

Responsibilities

• Determine and utilize appropriate inspection methods and instruments (micrometers, height gauges, air gauges, radius gauges, calipers, CMM, etc.) to complete in-process and final inspection of machined aerospace parts and assemblies, including simple to moderate layouts and setups on a surface plate.
• Operate CMM to support manufacturing in-process first piece, internal inspection points, and customer-required first article inspection (FAI); complete FAI to AS9102 standards, customer requirements, and company procedures.
• Inspect complex machined fixtures and parts using advanced measuring and layout instruments and equipment.
• Participate in design reviews on cross-functional teams to ensure conformance to specifications, inspectability, reliability, and quality system objectives; provide technical support for manufacturing operations to ensure part quality.
• Assist engineering with the qualification and validation of new or changed tooling or parts.
• Interpret drawings featuring Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance (GD&T) to identify product inspection requirements.
• Generate inspection reports; analyze inspection reports to determine adherence to drawings, specifications, and processing procedures; initiate nonconformance records and disposition of parts not meeting requirements.
• Prepare detailed inspection documentation, such as written descriptions of inspection results, including deviations from engineering specifications.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with internal and external personnel to identify root causes, troubleshoot and address errors and trends, and negotiate the resolution of non-conforming parts and necessary rework or re-inspection.
• Perform other duties as required.

Regular attendance on-site at the workplace is required. This role requires ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance; qualified candidates must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or protected person under EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15).

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Associate degree or similar post-secondary or vocational training in machining or a related program is preferred.
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience as a CMM Operator in a machining environment; aerospace industry experience is preferred.

Skills

• Demonstrated accuracy in reading and interpreting blueprints, planning, and engineering documents, quality standards, customer specifications, manufacturing control plans, including PCM, and other technical design standards.
• Advanced mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using fractions and decimal equivalents); familiarity with geometric tolerance.
• Experience in accurately reading precision measuring instrumentation, including mics, calipers, height gauges, tape measures, and other similar devices.
• Understanding of nonconforming product.
• Knowledge of customer and industry standards and quality system requirements, including AS9100 and FAA requirements.
• Knowledge of problem-solving techniques (e.g., Statistical Quality Control/Statistical Process-Control) is preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing (English).
• Basic skills using Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, and Word; ERP experience is advantageous.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, including all buildings and manufacturing areas.
• Periodically lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 100 pounds using cranes or other material handling equipment and/or peer assistance.
• Regularly climb steps, stairs, or ladders.
• Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel.
• Constantly communicate verbally and in writing (English) using a phone, texts, or other messaging.
• Visual acuity to accurately read mics, calipers, or other precision measuring instruments; accurately distinguish colors.
• Use hands and fingers to operate computer keyboards, measurement instruments, and manually examine parts.
• Visual ability to read precise measurements and part markings.

Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment with exposure to:

• Excessive noise (hearing protection required).
• Dust, smoke, mist, fumes/vapors (regularly).
• Extreme temperatures (occasionally).
• Hazardous equipment, including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment (continually).

The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and safety footwear is required.
