About the role

WSP is seeking a Construction Inspector based out of our Glastonbury, Connecticut office to help oversee highway, bridge, and rail construction projects throughout Connecticut. Depending on experience, the Inspector will oversee work such as roadway paving, excavation, backfill, drainage, traffic control, bridge structural steel and rebar placement, concrete pours, pile driving, utility installation, and other related activities. The inspector will report to the Resident Engineer/Chief Inspector or their designee.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspection of various highway and bridge construction operations to ensure compliance with contract documents and plans.
  • Perform field measurements and calculations for quantity payment items.
  • Complete daily work reports in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Assist other team members in inspection duties.
  • Interface with contractor’s supervisors to coordinate and monitor daily work.
  • Help coordinate independent material sampling and testing or periodically perform the same.
  • Monitor maintenance of traffic.
  • Take and compile photographs of work activities for tracking daily progress.
  • Keep the Chief Inspector and/or Resident Engineer informed on all construction activities.
  • Exposure to highway and construction environments and year-round weather conditions.
  • Potential for working days, nights, and weekends.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Construction Management, or related field, or NICET 2, or CMIT Level 3 (per CTDOT requirements).
  • Minimum 1 year of construction inspection experience (2 years with NICET 2 or CMIT 3).
  • Strong oral and written technical communication skills.
  • Ability to learn how to read plans and specifications, or the aptitude to learn.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable personal transportation.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Engineer-In-Training certification.
  • ACI, NETTCP certification or ability to attain within 3 months of hiring.
  • Hands-on experience with construction management software such as AASHTOWare Project, Headlight, Procore, or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of Bluebeam.
