Responsibilities

• Inspect, test, and maintain fire protection systems (sprinkler systems, fire pumps, backflows) in accordance with NFPA codes, with working knowledge of sprinkler controls, alarm panels, devices, and critical components.
• Record and report deficiencies of fire protection systems to Summit Fire & Security (SFS) and customers.
• Communicate professionally with internal and external customers, as well as offsite monitoring companies.
• Use and operate tools required for inspections, including heat and smoke detector kits, backflow kits, and pump equipment.
• Plan, coordinate, and complete inspections as scheduled in a timely manner.
• Be available for on-call status to handle emergency service and inspection requests.
• Maintain company-provided vehicle and assigned tools in clean, safe, and operational condition.
• Follow SFS’s Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous Communication program, policies, and procedures; participate in weekly Toolbox talks.
• Know the location of all related safety documentation on each project.
• Attend seminars to stay updated on changing technology, installation, and testing approaches.
• Train inspector trainees in all applicable aspects of fire protection.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
• NICET and/or state-required certification based on location (preferred).
• 3–5 years’ experience inspecting fire protection systems (5+ years preferred).
• Ability to work alone and as part of a team.
• Basic math skills, mechanical aptitude, problem-solving, customer service, decision-making, multitasking, planning, organization, and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to train others.
• Effective reading, writing, and communication skills in English.
• Ability to operate a computer, tablet, and read electronic blueprints.
• Experience with SalesForce and Microsoft Office (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
• Compliance with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and background screening requirements, including customer-specific requirements.

Physical & Work Environment

• Frequent bending, ascending/descending step stools, ladders, and stairs; kneeling; lifting under 50 lbs; reaching above and below shoulders; standing and walking for extended periods.
• Ability to see in color, at close and far distances, peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjust focus.
• Occasional balancing, crouching, driving, kneeling, lifting over 50 lbs, sitting, stooping, twisting, and working at heights.
• Frequent local travel and occasional regional/non-regional travel.
• Frequent exposure to indoor/outdoor environments, hot/cold temperatures, loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes, odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards.
• Occasional exposure to chemicals, moving machinery, uneven/slippery surfaces.
• Consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by company safety policies.
